Speech therapy helps children of all ages with various speech and language disorders. They help children with articulation disorders, fluency disorders, swallowing/feeding disorders, receptive language, expressive language and social skills.
Your child may benefit from speech therapy if they:
- are not babbling consonant sounds e.g. “da, da, da” (6 months old)
- are not imitating sounds (9 months old)
- are not using “mama” or “dada” meaningfully (12 months old)
- are not using 5-10 words (15 months old)
- are not using 50 words (21 months old)
- are not beginning to use 2- word phrases (24 months old)
- are not able to follow 2-step directions, e.g. “pick up your coat and bring it to me.” (24 months old)
- stutter
- are not understood by other individuals at least 50% of the time by 2 years of age
- struggle to find the correct word to say
- are struggling with peer and social interactions as a result of their communication (e.g. eye contact, play skills, turn taking, knowing how to make friends)
- are unable to answer who, what, where, when and why questions
- are unable to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end
